Nudes and reds will never go out of style. But in the spirit of trying new things out this month, we'd like to encourage our readers to venture out of their beauty comfort zones and try something new: purple lipstick.
Purple is probably one of the most underrated lipstick shades out there. Many find it too intimidating, but you might be surprised how flattering it can be on a variety of skin tones. The great thing about this bright and bold lipstick shade is that you don’t have to do a lot with the rest of your features. A subtle wash of blush and a few coats of mascara and you're set from day to night.
If you’ve been wondering how to pull off a purple lip look, read on!
1. Mix it with a lighter shade.
If this is your first time trying purple lipstick, ease your way into the look by mixing it with a pink shade. This will tone down the color and give you a gorgeous magenta shade.
iamClaire. Recommends: Mix a purple liquid lipstick like the Kylie Cosmetics Lip Kit in Spice with a light pink shade like Milani’s Amore Matte Lip Creme in Darling.
2. Apply a lip gloss topper.
One way to amp up your purple lipstick is by applying clear gloss on top. Not a fan of lip gloss? Dab a small amount strictly on the center pout just to create the illusion of a plumper lip.
iamClaire. Recommends: Apply a clear lip gloss like Girlactik Star Gloss in Sheer Bone on top of your purple lippie.
3. Do a gradient lip.
Create a wine-stained look with a gradient purple lip. It’s super wearable and looks especially fresh paired with a dewy base and bare lids. Just take your purple lippie and apply it on the inner parts of your lips then blend outwards using your ring finger.
iamClaire. Recommends: Take a creamy raspberry-plum lipstick like Mac Matte Lipstick in Heroine and blend it out right after application.
