Lipstick is one of the easiest makeup products to work with if you want to change up your look. Just swipe on some lip color and step out the door. Before being a beauty blogger, I always stuck with MLBB or my lips but better shades that leave people wondering if I have lipstick on or not.
But I’ve been dabbling with beauty for almost five years now and I’ve discovered the wonders lipstick can do for a tired, dull, and sunken face that binge-watched an entire TV series the night before. Plus, do I want to keep spending my hard-earned money on lipsticks that make me look like I’m not wearing any lipstick at all?
So now, my vanity table is armed with a bevy of lipsticks that range from bright to bold to vampy. Currently, here are the top five shades on my rotation. I also find these shades universally flattering on Filipina skin tones
For pinks, the lightest I can go would be dusty pink shades. These are a great alternative to true nude shades that make me—and most Filipinas—look washed out. I love L’Oreal Nymphea, a dusty pink shade that has a soft matte finish.

For work, meetings, or events that call for a smart casual look, I go for medium pinks. Chanel’s Seduisante is a lovely rosy-beige shade—something I picture Kate Middleton would wear.
iamClaire. Recommends: Glam Art Rouge in Peony Garden
A beautiful berry pink shade like L’Oreal Rose Lotus instantly brightens and perks up the face. It can also suit a range of skin tones—from medium to morena. I go for subdued berry hues so it’s not a full-on pop of color nor too attention-grabbing.
iamClaire. Recommends: Blair Cosmetics Velvet Matte Lipstick in Elle
For the darker shades, one of my favorites is Ofra Santa Ana, a wearable dark rose with a mix of berry. This is one of the more versatile shades—ideal for both the office or for a romantic date night.
iamClaire. Recommends: ColourPop Lippie Stix in Poppin'
For red lipsticks, I rarely go for the true reds. I love brick reds and wines the most. They’re easier to wear and not too striking. I love Lipstick Queen in Entourage, a rich burgundy red.
iamClaire. Recommends: Mac Liptensity Lipstick in Dionysus
Now, this is just a guide for fellow Filipinas who love lipstick but are scared to go bright or bold. There’s no hard rule to follow in makeup. We’re all free to experiment and wear whatever color we want!
