The Beauty of a Beauty Routine

Maintaining a beauty regimen can be tedious and—depending on how dedicated you are—costly. Which is probably why some women (and almost all men) neglect or forgo it altogether. But more than vanity, cultivating a beauty and skincare routine is an investment in our overall well-being.

Skincare is just as it says—taking care of the skin, the largest organ in our body. It protects us from head to toe, and yet it’s constantly under attack from pollution and other harsh elements, and subject to the irreversible effects of aging. A good skincare regimen is essential in helping the skin heal and perform at its best. Whether it’s as simple as cleansing your face at the end of the day or subscribing to the rigorous 10-Step Korean Skincare routine—what matters is that we take a proactive step in giving our skin that much-needed boost and extra protection.

In skincare, it’s important to start sooner rather than later. It's harder to treat existing skin problems like acne and dark spots, than it is to prevent them. Get to know your skin, research, and buy (or make!) products that best suit you. 
 
Now the hard part: actually remembering to use these products regularly! Going through multiple steps with multiple products can get a bit tiresome when all you want to do is crash in bed. So instead of looking at skincare as a joyless chore, think of it as a treat to yourself, especially at the end of a long and stressful day.

Unwind and relax as you go through the motions of your routine. Spritz on your favorite fragrance after you take a shower. Zone out or meditate as you massage your skin during cleansing. Release your stress with each pat-pat-pat of your toner, essence, or lotion (just don’t pat too hard!). Take a quick snooze while you have a sheet mask on. The successful repetitive actions of a routine can also help you feel more organized and productive.

In the end, the beauty of a beauty routine is not about the cost of the products we slather onto our skin or the number of steps in our daily ritual. It’s about the small acts of self-love that can go a long way in making us feel better, more confident, and more beautiful from the inside-out.
